NEVADA - Today, Institute for a Progressive Nevada unveiled two new billboards in Reno and Las Vegas, along with Meta ads, highlighting the urgent need to protect Nevada’s public lands and invest in fire safety. The Reno billboard calls on Governor Joe Lombardo to prioritize wildfire prevention and allocate critical funding to fire safety efforts—an essential step as Northern Nevada continues to face devastating wildfire seasons. Meanwhile, the Las Vegas billboard urges Nevadans, including Governor Lombardo, to stand against proposals that would sell off public lands to solve the housing crisis, threatening local wildlife and outdoor access in the process.

Shelbie Swartz, Executive Director of Institute for a Progressive Nevada, issued the following statement:

“Nevadans deeply value our public lands—they're part of who we are. Wildfire safety isn’t a luxury; it’s a necessity, especially as our communities face growing threats every year. These billboards are a call to action for bold, responsible leadership. Selling off public lands or cutting funding for fire agencies would do lasting damage to our environment and public safety. We urge Governor Lombardo to reject these short-sighted proposals and instead champion real, sustainable solutions to the housing crisis and to wildfire safety—solutions that protect both our people and our public spaces.”
